Salamanca, Spain
Hello everybody!
I might be going to Salamanca, Spain, on September 2008. Have any of you studied there or Spain before? Well, thanks for any comment in advance!

I studied in Salamanca, Spain during the summer of 2006. I have heard a lot of mixed reactions about this city, but I personally loved it and consider it a wonderful place to travel to, especially if you have not traveled a great deal yet. I went with ISA (International Studies Abroad) and I was really impressed. The on-site staff are cool and helpful and are really nice people.
June 4th, 2008 at 9:04 amBut since you asked about Salamanca, and not ISA, I’ll focus on the city itself. It’s beautiful. Just the right mixture of a metro and a small-town feel. There is amazing architecture to be found anywhere you look, and it is a city teeming with history and life. If you study in Salamanca, one place in which you will spend lots of time is the Plaza Mayor. It’s in the center of the city, with all major streets running into it, and it is just amazing. It’s always full of people and life! At night, people gather there to eat icecream, drink coffee, and be with friends. Sometimes, gypsies and acrobats perform there with stunts and fire. They sell hand made crafts. It’s just a wonderful feeling to be a part of that.
If you’re interested, there is also a pretty happening night life in Salamanca, but mostly Americans take part in this. Lots of little bars with good music and drink specials. Everything is pretty much in walking distance, but I would say, as with any city really, don’t walk home at night by yourself. My friend DID get robbed and it was really sad and scary. Salamanca is not extremely dangerous, but you always need to use your common sense and judgement.
Overall, my experiences in Salamanca were really amazing and I hope that this reply helped you decide whether or not this is the city for you.
